Biography

Ty Cobb
John Tyler Cobb is a Tennessean who has dedicated his life to public service. The son of school teachers, Cobb learned the importance of hard work at a very young age. Cobb was born at Maury Regional Hospital in Columbia, Tennessee on August 17th, 1978. After graduating from Richland High School, Cobb enrolled at Columbia State Community College and Volunteer State Community College where he received his Associates in Fire Science and EMT license. At graduation, Cobb received the Presidential Transfer Scholarship from Volunteer State and attended the University of Memphis, graduating with honors in 2005.

Cobb was the youngest County Commissioner ever elected to the Maury County Commission at the age of 27 years old. As a dedicated elected official, Cobb has pushed hard to preserve Maury County history while supporting growth. Cobb believes that the goal of every elected official should be to work together with a shared vision that produces positive results. This is accomplished by governments being proactive visionaries that see 5, 10, to 15 years down the road of where our state and communities must be and achieving those visions.

Cobb has always loved community service and has been involved with the fire service and politics since a very young age. He served as a volunteer firefighter with the Pulaski Fire Department and is currently a nine year member with the Columbia Fire Department. A strong supporter of charity work and community programs, Cobb works hard to raise money for the American Red Cross, MDA “Jerry Kids”, and many other charitable organizations.

Cobb is a Christian and a member of Graymere Church of Christ in Columbia. When away from public service, Cobb enjoys spending time with his family and friends. Cobb’s family consists of his parents, Danny Ray and Ann Cobb of Pulaski, Tennessee. One brother, David Cobb resides in Orlando, Florida. One sister, Natalie Ann Lewellen and husband Tim Lewellen, and nephew Grady Charles Lewellen all of Oxford, Mississippi.
